CFN CENTENNIAL EMAIL NEWS 01/01/11

To all our Centennial Husker Fans:

Can you believe it?  It’s 2011 and we are all through with our 2010 football season.  Our Holiday Bowl game didn’t go as we had hoped and although we were all terribly disappointed, we now can look forward to whatever changes may come and to a better year in 2011.  Nebraska still has a wonderful program with wonderful talent,  integrity and purpose.  Remember, there is more to the Huskers than football.  We must continue to support them in not only football but all athletics.  Be sure to watch our websites for news on our basketball, gymnastic, volleyball and baseball teams.

Despite the game and final score, we, at CFN Centennial, had a good finish to the season.  We had about 78 attendees and some outstanding gifts for the drawings.  Some of our winners are shown below.

For those of you who do not know, Jim and I have stepped down from our position of  Watch Party Site Coordinators and members of the CFN board.  We have had so much fun meeting you and getting to know you all.   We have made a number of new Husker friends but it’s time to “pass the torch.”  We will continue to attend the watch site and hope to see you all again.   We thank you all for your support and for helping us make the Centennial site grow these past three years.  Please continue to support our CFN purpose, the CFN Scholarship Fund, with your donations.

We wish all of you  and your families a happy  and prosperous 2011.  We’ll see you next fall!

Sincerely,

Linda and Jim Garnsey

CFN CENTENNIAL EMAIL NEWS FOR 11/26/10

Hello, Centennial Husker Friends

What a great game we had on Friday!!  What a way to end our many years of rivalry with the Colorado Buffalos!  We thank all of the Colorado fans who attended our watch site to watch the game and want to thank them all for showing so much class and good sportsmanship.  Let us take this opportunity, also, to wish the Buffs all the best as they go  to the Pac 10 Conference.

We had a number of big groups on Friday and want to thank you all for spending your day after Thanksgiving with us.  Our prize winners were all happy with their prizes and we were fortunate to be able to offer some different and unique items.  Some of the winners were:

Now we look forward to the Big 12 Championship at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX.  We will be playing the Oklahoma Sooners.  Kickoff time is at 6:00 our time.  Based on our most recent attendance we would suggest you come early especially if you have a big group.  This will be the last time we all meet until the bowl game at the end of the year.  See you Saturday night!

Linda and Jim

CFN CENTENNIAL EMAIL NEWS FOR 11/20/10

To all our Husker friends,

As our Webmaster so aptly put it today, “the sun did come up this morning” in spite of our loss. What a horrible job of officiating!  We made mistakes, yes, but didn’t you think it was a bit unbalanced and unfair?  I’m sure we’ll recuperate but it certainly took the wind out of our sails, not to mention Bo and our team.  Jim and I are looking forward to Colorado as we have only one way to go and that’s up.  We definitely need to go into the battle with “fire in our bellies.”

A very ”Happy Birthday” to our member,  Zach, who enjoyed his special day with several friends and even managed to get away with some of the Husker prizes.  Hope you had a good time, Zach!

Thank you to those of you, too, who gave us special donations for our scholarship fund.  Without people like you, our kids wouldn’t have the opportunities they do at the U of N schools.

Despite it all, we had our usual drawings and everyone managed to have a good time and take home some nice things.  A few of our prize winners were: Travis Winters who won picture poster from the NU/Okla game Nov. 24, 1995 which was the last game of the Big 8 Conference, truly a collectors item and “the end of an era.”  It was his lucky day as he also won the Fox and Hound party.  Doug Korbel won the framed program cover of the collectors  NU/Oregon game and Kim won the NU stocking cap to keep her warm at the games.

Kickoff for the Colorado game is at 1:30 MST Friday so we’ll see you then. In the meantime, have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your friends and family.  For those of you going to Lincoln, drive safe and DON’T FORGET THE TAILGATE PARTY AT THE MANSE.  It will be a BLAST this year and the LAST ONE EVER!

CFN CENTENNIAL EMAIL NEWS FOR 11-13-10

Hi, Husker faithful!

We did it again!  Another nice win for the Huskers over Kansas and an awesome crowd for us at the Fox & Hound Centennial.  We had approximately 380 fans to help us celebrate the win.  Thank you to all of you who donated to the CFN Scholarship Fund and to those of you who took part in the silent auction bidding process.   The very happy winner of the silent auction CU game tickets was Susan Becia.  Congrats, Susan!  Enjoy the game!

We felt very honored to have had the NU Hockey team with us until the end of the first half when they had to leave for Colorado Springs to play Air Force.  They are a great bunch of guys and we enjoyed having them.  Hopefully, they enjoyed being here, as well, and were able to carry some of our NU enthusiasm to their game.  We hope they will join us again if they are in the area.

We have 4 new members who will be enjoying their membership and all its benefits through the 2011 season.  Our new members are Natalie and Jason Baum, Kate Cooley, Elizabeth Dressler and Jen Beck.  Remember, if you haven’t joined Coloradans For Nebraska yet, this is a good time to join because you will actually get all the perks for over a year.  That’s a great deal!

We held our regular halftime drawings and a few of the winners were:  Natalie Baum who won a pair of collectors mugs from the 1970 National Championship game, Nick Sands who won the 200th consecutive sellout collectors glass, Pat Crane who won a Husker umbrella, Jeff Opitz who won the Memorial Stadium poster, and Kristin Tooley who won a very cool red Husker back pack.

Thanks, again to all of you.  Now it’s on to Texas A&M next week.  Don’t forget, next week is our annual Thanksgiving food drive.  Bring a donation and receive a free ticket for the drawing.  Have a great week and we’ll see you then.

Go Big Red!!

REMINDER FOR KANSAS GAME 11/13/10

Okay, y’all, here’s your reminder for this week’s game.  The Kansas game is being shown only on Pay Per View.  We’ll have another big crowd this week so you need to be at the Fox and Hound early if you’re going to get a good seat.  Just so you know, the Fox and Hound is working on the sound system so we don’t have the problems we did the past 2 weeks .  Nonetheless, if you want to be able to hear everything well and find a good seat we suggest you be at the F&H around 4:00.  If you are attending with a group, have someone come early and save your tables/seats.

This week we’ll be drawing for:

          Fox and Hound Prizes

          Nebraska Hat

          1971 Championship Mugs

           NU posters

SILENT AUCTION FOR A PAIR OF COLORADO TICKETS!  For those of you wanting to go to the Colorado game but are without tickets, we are also having a silent auction.  All you have to do is bid.  We are starting the bidding at $65 each which is face value but where it goes from there is up to you!  Just remember, the money still goes to the CFN Scholarship fund.  Bidding stops at the end of the third quarter.

Next week is the week before Thanksgiving so here’s the opportunity to give a little something back to the community.  We are having a food drive next week, November, 20th.  Bring a donation and earn another complimentary ticket for the drawing.

That’s it for now.  Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  See you Saturday!

GO BIG RED!

Holy Cow, Huskers!

Another nail-biter!  This game was definitely not for the weak of heart but we eaked out of it again.  Hopefully, things will get a bit easier as the season goes on.  We had a great showing again and enjoyed having you all there to help us cheer.

Our drawings were highlighted by our special drawing and recognition of our veterans.  Although there really aren’t adequate words to express our gratitude, we thank you all so much for all you have done to allow us to do the things we do and have the freedoms we have.  In honor of our veterans we held a veterans only drawing which was won by Larry Daub who won a special Husker  red camoflage hat.  Other winners were:  Nancy Rathje, Rob Walker, Jay Corn, Jenny Muehling and Ted Batchelder.

Our members only drawing was won by Leo Gruenke. We were very happy to give him two tickets to the very last ever, NU/CU game in Lincoln.  Congrats Leo!!

Don’t forget, this week is a 5:00 kickoff with the Kansas Jayhawks.  Be there early.  It’s only on Pay Per View.  See you then.

CFN CENTENNIAL EMAIL NEWS FOR 10/30/10

Hi guys!

Was that a great game or what?!  Nothing like another convincing win to give us all the confidence we need to go for the Big 12 championship.  Congratulations, though, to Missouri who, like always,  gave us a run for our money.

Yesterday was loaded with fun as usual and we had some happy prizewinners.  Ken Fredericksen was the winner of the framed collectible NU vs Missouri program cover from the October, 1936 game.  By the way, the Huskers won that game 20-0.  The framed action picture of Nate Swift was won by Trish Haynes and Judi Brion won the backpack donated by First Bank.  A few other winners were Bill Johnson, Leo Greunke and Jess Crane.  Welcome, too, to all of you new members, Troy McKeown, Mike McLean, Travis Winters and Connie Lane.  We appreciate your support.  Don’t forget, your memberships are good until football season next year!

Hope you all have a fun, safe Halloween and a great week.  We’ll see you next Saturday to cheer on our Huskers to a win over the Iowa State Cyclones.

Dear Friends,

What a great afternoon we had yesterday.  We had 126 very happy Husker fans with us to celebrate our 51-41 victory over Oklahoma State. Our crowd was fun, energetic and not only from our Denver area but also from our home state of Nebraska.  We had visitors from Omaha, Scottsbluff, Ord and Aurora, NE.  We enjoyed having all of you and would love to have you back to join us the next time you’re in town.  For those of you who also came to see the Broncos game; our apologies.  We were just as surprised and disappointed as you with the outcome today.

We had some big prize winners yesterday.  Many thanks to Elijah Green who helped Jim with the drawing.  Elijah’s from Aurora, NE and attended our site with his dad, brother, grandpa.  Our big winner this week was Dave Harms who won a pair of tickets to the Missouri game this coming Saturday.   It pays to be a member of CFN!  Other winners were:  Jesse Crane, Jodi McConnell from Colorado Springs who won a gift certificate from The Red Zone, Debbie and John Misegadis each of whom won prizes; a back pack and the collectors NU Cheerleader Barbie Doll.  The collector NU mug and Fox and Hound free appetizer went to Paul and Lana Parmenter of Scottsbluff.  Dan and Roseanne Waldman won the Fox and Hound party for 20.  These old classmates from Ord, NE will use it to have another great day!

Thanks again to all of you who continue to support our efforts.  By the way, if you can’t make it to the Fox and Hound, you can listen to the game on radio AM 1600.  We look forward to seeing you next week when we meet the Missouri Tigers.

GO BIG RED!
